Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru Abdul Mutallab is currently the chairman of the Advisory Board of Institute of Islamic Finance Professionals, Nigeria (IIFP). He attended the famous Barewa College, Zaria, Achimota College, Accra, Ghana and Southwest London College, London where he obtained a degree in Accounting.

Alhaji Mutallab was a former minister of Economic Development and later a minister of Cooperatives and Supplies of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He was a former Executive Vice Chairman and Managing Director/CEO of United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA) – the third largest bank in Nigeria and an affiliate of BNP Paribas (1978-1988) as well as a former Chairman of First Bank of Nigeria Plc (1999-2009 – the oldest and biggest bank in Nigeria.

Alhaji Mutallab has also served on several boards of directors such as Arewa textile Limited, old National Electricity Power Authority (NEPA), Nigeria Agricultural Cooperative Bank (NACB), Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Nigeria Agip Oil and Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (CCNN).

In the late 2000s, he became the chairman of several companies such as the Impressit Bakolori Plc, Incar Nigeria Plc and Spring Waters Nigeria Limited (SWAN). Alhaji Mutallab is the chairman of the business Working Group of the Vision 20:2020 Committee in Nigeria. He is a holder of one of the highest national awards in Nigeria – Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) as well as the Italian Commander of the Order of Merit.

Alhaji Mutallab is also an awardee of honorary doctoral degree (honoris causa) of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria as well as a fellow of both the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) of UK and the Institute of International Bankers Association (FIBA) of the United States of America.
